Geopolitics is a science that unites the area of political science with Geography, which has defined a set of knowledge about the geographical and political sense of governing. This research aims to make a brief reflection on geopolitics in South American countries, the methodology being the analysis of critical-reflective discourse with documentary review. The analysis was based on the study by Lara Tapia Luis (2019), entitled: Geopolitical vision of Ecuador in the period 2006 – 2016. Its influence on Security and Defense, carried out in Quito – Ecuador, and focusing specifically on Chapter III called: Geopolitics in South America. The reflection shows that the power of a nation can be closely related to geographical aspects, which may represent for some regions, its great strength of projection towards other continents. It is concluded that political geography is a strategic tool for the decision-making of nations; and it can make a region self-sufficient, in such a way as to boost the use of natural resources inside and outside its location, and, in turn, be able to cover all human needs.
